Amidon, Roger Jr.[1, 2]

Name Amidon, Roger Suffix Jr. Birth 12 May 1747 Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts [3] Gender Male Residence 1767 - 1797 Douglas, Worcester, Massachusetts [4, 5, 6] We don't know where Roger was living before 1767. His father was living in Douglas in 1765 when Roger, Jr. was 18 and possibly was living at home. However, if he had been apprenticed, he might not have been living in Douglas.
Roger Amidon, Jr. bought a 30 acre parcel of land in Douglas on 2 Apr 1767 when he was almost 20 years old. He completed many real estate transactions in the 30 years he lived in Douglas. A list can be downloaded under documents, below.

Roger apparently followed his brother Samuel to Readsboro. Samuel was in Readsboro by 1794, as shown by a Worcester County deed in which Samuel Amidon of Readsborough, Vermont was among Roger's siblings who sold the property of their "honored Father dec'd" in Douglas.
He was Readsboro for the 1800 US census

Signed by Roger Amidon & Ruth Amidon
Witnessed by Samuel H. Reed and Joanna Wilcox.Death 30 May 1825 Rowe, Massachusetts [14] - Best says Roger died in Readsboro, Vermont, but death records show that both Roger and his wife Elizabeth died in Rowe, Massachusetts where they had lived for many years.
Probate 1825 - 1827 Franklin County, Massachusetts [15] Roger died intestate and his estate was insolvent. His wife Ruth submitted a plea to retain some of the assets as she brought $500 to the marriage and had two young children to raise. She was allowed to retain her wearing apparel and other articles to the amount of $200. She also owned real estate in Rowe independently of Roger. Burial Westridge Cemetery, Charlton, Worcester, Massachusetts [16] - Roger is almost certainly not buried in this cemetery as he died in Rowe, Massachusetts many years before this gravestone was erected. The inscription is doubtless a cenotaph. The inscription is on the back of his son Luther's gravestone.
