Histories of the Martin, Wilson, Bloom, & Ahola Families
Martin, Earl
1780 - 1837 (57 years)-
Name Martin, Earl Birth 15 Jun 1780 [1] - I calculated Earl's birth date from Maud Latham's transcription of his gravestone. However, Maud also wrote that he was born 12 Mar 1784. Other sources also have used the 1784 date and attributed it to Walworth's Hyde Genealogy, but I cannot find it in that book. If 1780 is Earl's correct birth year, he would have been 24 and Zerviah would have been 20 years old when they were married.
One descendant says that Earl was born in Middleburgh, Schoharie, New York, but I am unaware of evidence for this assertion. We do not know when Earl's parents first moved to New York, but they lived in Rensselaerville, Albany, New York from 1787 - 1800. (Rensselaerville is not far from Middleburgh.) Earl's brother Silas was born in 1783 in Massachusetts. If Earl was born in 1780, he also was probably born in Massachusetts. If he was born in 1784, he could have been born in New York. Some reports say that he was born in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut. I have not seen a source for this assertion, and it seems unlikely to me.
Gender Male Residence 1787 - 1800 Rensselaerville, Albany, New York Earl's parents lived in Rensselaerville during this time. Relocation Aft 1806 Blenheim, Oxford, Ontario, Canada Earl's first child was born in USA. (See Walter Hyde Martin.) Father Martin, Samuel, b. Abt 1759 d. 28 Aug 1832 (Age ~ 73 years) Mother Greene, Silence, b. 14 Apr 1762, Coventry, Kent, Rhode Island, d. 29 May 1811, Blenheim, Oxford, Ontario, Canada (Age 49 years) Marriage Abt 1780 Lanesborough, Berkshire, Massachusetts - Samuel and Silence very likely were married in Lanesborough or a nearby town, although no record has been located yet. Silence's family moved to Lanesborough in 1773 when she was 11, her sister Huldah was married in Lanesborough in 1782, and Silence's son Silas was born in Massachusetts in 1783.

Family Hyde, Zerviah, b. 24 Aug 1784, Lebanon, Connecticut d. 31 Jan 1858, Blenheim, Oxford, Canada West, Canada (Age 73 years) Marriage 25 Dec 1804 Claverack, Columbia, New York [3, 4, 5] - Earl and Zerviah may have become acquainted between 1795 and 1800 when Zerviah's family was living in Middleburgh, Schoharie County, New York and Earl's family was living in nearby Rensselaerville, Albany County. Zerviah's brother Elijah was reportedly born in Claverack in 1801, and Walworth wrote that Daniel and his family moved to Bainbridge in 1806. Note that the Afton Enterprise article (see notes under Daniel Hyde) says that Daniel moved to Bainbridge in 1801. But this seems unlikely given Zerviah's marriage in Claverack at the end of 1804.
