Histories of the Martin, Wilson, Bloom, & Ahola Families
Greene, Elizabeth (2nd)[1]
1771 - 1821 (50 years)-
Name Greene, Elizabeth (2nd) Nickname Betsy Birth 25 Mar 1771 - Elizabeth's birthplace is unknown, but it may have been New Britain, Albany, New York, as her family apparently was living there before her father bought land in Lanesborough, Massachusetts in 1773. Her birth date is taken from the family record given in the note below on this page. Elizabeth's birth date is given as 26 Mar 1771 in Fiske and Fisk Family. [2]
Gender Female Death 4 Jul 1821 Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont, USA [2] Person ID I395 Martin-Bloom Last Modified 24 Sep 2018
Father Greene, Elder Timothy, b. 14 Jun 1725, West Greenwich, Rhode Island d. Aft 1790 (Age 65 years) Mother Rowland (Rouland) Burlingame, Silence, b. 17 Jul 1729, Dighton, Bristol, Massachusetts d. 1813 (Age 83 years) Marriage 22 Sep 1751 West Greenwich, Rhode Island [3] - Mary Shaw Greene wrote that Silence was a widow from Scituate, Massachusetts without evidence. Arnold's entry for the marriage reads [Greene] "Timothy, of W. Greenwich, and Silence Burlingame, widow, of Scituate; m. at Coventry by Elder James Colvin, Sept, 22 1751". The fact that Scituate is not specifically said to be in Massachusetts, suggests that Silence was from Scituate, Providence County, Rhode Island, as other states are commonly named in these records. [3, 4]
Notes - A record of the births in the Greene family is given in the following, which is a transcription of a copy of a note written by Sarah Mallory Baker, who had copied the original record. In her note Sarah Baker states explicitly that Huldah was the daughter of Elder Timothy Greene. Sarah personally knew Huldah. Mrs. Percy Barker copied Sarah's note and sent it to Maud Martin Latham via Eva Sowden in 1956. My comments in [ ]. Sarah's note said:

This is a true copy from an old record as exact as I could possibly make it - I have endeavored to preserve the quaint old manner of the orthography of a hundred and twenty years ago.
For Thomas Horner and the posterity of my Dear Mother-in-law Mrs Huldah Baker. who was daughter of Elder Timothy Green and Grandmother to the children of Mrs Olive Horner of Burford, W.C.

[The "-3" at the end of some lines may have been flourishes and may have no meaning.]

Notes - Mary Shaw Greene wrote that Elizabeth married _____ Fisk. [1]
- Elizabeth was described in Fiske and Fisk Family as "the daughter of a Baptist clergyman who lived in Cheshire, Mass. near a place once called Muddy Brook". That clergyman was doubtless Elder Timothy Greene. Part of Lanesborough was incorporated into Cheshire when the latter was formed. [2]
- Some authors have written that Elizabeth married Peleg Wightman and is buried in the Carpenter-Wightman Lot in Warwick, R.I. (aka Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Warwick #112). However, the Elizabeth Greene who married Peleg Wightman was the daughter of John Greene, not Timothy.
