Notes - In 1744 Joseph Morse's church in Canterbury, Connecticut underwent went a schism. Joseph was among the "brethren and friends who strictly adhered to the congregational constitution of church discipline and refused to subject themselves to Saybrook Platform and said incumbent's [Rev'd Mr. James Cogswell] ministry." In 1760 the group of dissenters, including Joseph, petitioned the Assembly for relief from taxes supporting the established church. The relief was granted. [7]
